Well it's Sunday, and it's August and still no baby. I think I am starting to learn that I have to just let her decide when she is coming. Every time I say "I think..." or "I hope..", or "she should be here by..." certain date I think she punishes me by waiting longer. It's difficult not to when it seems like there is a little bit of progression every day or night. Throughout the day and every night especially, I am having contractions that are not painful but more and more noticeable every day and I keep thinking (or wishing) they turn into the the painful contractions that are the true contractions of labor and then every night I fall asleep and wake up with the contractions having receded. I have to remind myself that although right now I think there is nothing worse than waiting around for an overdue baby, there is; baby is happy and healthy in there and if she wasn't, that would be worse.
On Wednesday I went in for my non-stress test which my sister-in-law was able to do since she is now officially a labor and delivery nurse (yes, that's right, I got lucky and have a mommy nurse and a sister nurse). Call me crazy but I loved this test! You just lay there and do nothing for an hour but listen to the baby's heart rate and watch to see if you are having any contractions. It was so comforting to hear her heart for such a long time and it is such a perfect heart beat, stayed between 120 bpm and 150 bpm pretty much the whole time and every time she would move it would get louder or fainter depending on if she was moving towards or away from the microphone. Then on top of that I was contracting and it was neat to kind of read my bodies clues and then see something happen on the chart, kind of helps me to gauge what my bodies response is to contractions. The test came out exactly how we want it to, what they call reactive, and Jenna even made the prediction that judging from the test, I would be back in that night or next day in labor. Another prediction my little baby was determined to prove wrong.
So Thursday I went back in to my doctor to see her one more time before she left for vacay and see if we might be able to get this going. I won't bother putting all of the vitals on this time because they are pretty much exactly the same as they have been the last 3 weeks. She again tried to strip my membranes and no luck again. I am still not dialated and instead of trying to force her way through like she did the last time she stayed gentle (even though I was braced and ready for her to be rough). She did say that the contractions ARE doing something because I am probably pretty close to completely thinned out. I just have a stubborn cervix, or as my mom calls it, a cervix of steel, that probably won't dialate until it is actual labor.
After talking to my doctor about my concerns of switching doctors next week she helped me to get an appointment with another female doctor which makes me feel slightly better and also told me to set up with the nurse basically an induction date so that I will at least have a date to focus on as an end date. So, if not before, this baby WILL be here on August 9. 9 more days. UGH!
My mom also came in on Thursday evening which has the magical ability to make everything so much better. She has been helping to distract me so the days don't drag by, and got to come with us to our second non-stress test yesterday. Same as before, the test was reactive so baby is happy and healthy. I am starting to think I need to make her environment a little less cozy so she wants to come out here to play. My mom was able to point out a few things that the nurse didn't like a slight drop in the heart rate for less than 10 seconds, and was impressed with the contractions I've been having, some of them were so strong they were off the charts...now if only they would start being painful and we could get this baby out here. Who would have ever thought I would be asking and hoping for such unbearable pain?
