Just taking a quick minute to brag about my daughter

Sometimes it throws me off guard just how quickly my toddler is picking up stuff, and how smart she is, so I thought I would write down some of the things that have made me do double takes in the last week.

  • I admit we fell off the wagon with potty training. I was too sick and exhausted to take Kiley to the potty to see if she had to go. But daycare has been faithfully taking her to the potty every day she is there, and she has been going on it a good portion of the time too. I think she likes being like the big 2 year olds. So last weekend, while staying at the cabin, watching some Fox and the Hound, Kiley trots off to the bathroom. I didn't think much of it, but I can hear her getting into stuff, and ask her to come back out where I can see her. A couple minutes later she comes back, pants in hand and no diaper on. Let me stop here and tell you I knew she had just taken a poop in that diaper. So I jump up and go running into the bathroom expecting to find poop everywhere. You know what I see when I get there? A diaper nicely folded up in trash, some toilet paper unwound with a little poo mark and no poop anywhere! Girlfriend took her own poopy diaper off and tried to wipe herself! She may have gotten a cookie for being so amazing that morning.

  • Kiley is obsessed with Yo Gabba Gabba. It has been the source of many "mommy breaks", and tantrums when she is not allowed to watch it. A couple months ago she really started remembering names and thinks it is great fun to say what everyone is doing "Daddys sleeping", "Grandmas home", "Shadows outside", "Mommy go potty". She also likes to talk about the Yo Gabba Gabba characters.  One morning, she was starting a new episode of YGG as I was getting dressed and I listened as she sang the entire song. It's not a difficult song, but she was on rhythm and everything, I could not believe it. Oh and even more amazing-she watches on our ipads and knows exactly how to unlock the ipad, go to Netflix, find YGG on Netflix and play.

  • It's not very often that Kiley gets time outs but when she does, she sits on the stairs for a minute and then I come and tell her what she did wrong, have her repeat it to me, say sorry, and then we hug and kiss. Her last time out was for spitting at me while I was brushing her teeth. She took a quick time out and when I got there, you could tell she had done her thinking. She quickly told me "no no spitting. sorry mommy." and gave me a hug and kiss. Not in the "I know this game" kind of way but in the "I know better" kind of way. *I think. Or else she really knows how to play me like a fiddle*

  • The other evening I was super exhausted and ended up falling asleep on the couch while Kiley was playing on my iPad next to me (Chad was home too). I remember drifting off to sleep to the sound of Kiley tapping followed by cute little laughs like "hehe", but thought she was just playing on one of the toddler apps like she normally does. When I woke up I opened up my instagram app and notice 8 pictures were not only taken but posted! For those of you without instagram, it takes 3 additional steps after taking a picture to post it, and she took 8! She thought she was pretty funny too with her "hehe"s. Luckily they were all of the couch and not of me asleep and drooling right next to her!
